Synopsis

Based upon true family stories and letters, One Tragic June describes the intense love story and fate of a Plain country woman, June, and a man not of her faith, Peter, who entered the army in World War II.  Their different backgrounds, upbringings, and philosophies made their romance improbable and unacceptable in the Plain religion, yet they shared a common desire to carve their own destinies versus those prescribed by their families and communities. Due to their unique bond and events, their families were forced to redefine their own lives, which resulted in a lasting friendship. The echoes of June and Peter's silent footsteps resonate for generations.

About the Author

"One Tragic June" marks Jean Pugh Shipman's explosive debut novel, joining her two critically edited works on innovation and collaboration in health sciences libraries. Born and raised in a small Pennsylvania town steeped in Plain religion tradition, Jean spent nearly 40 years as a medical librarian-driven by a fierce desire to break free and live in the city. Her novel's gripping, raw story is pulled straight from her mother's family history and authentic letters, many laid bare in the pages. Now, Jean thrives in the wild beauty of Virginia's foothills alongside her husband, Mark, and their friendly cat.
