Synopsis
How to Make Magic Real features eleven-year-old Ada Lovelace Cohen-Young, who has moved across the country for her mom's job after her doctor dad died in the Covid epidemic. Currently, her only friends are her imagination and her books, and she wishes for a friend to move into the run-down cottage next door. She writes stories about fairies, including a fairy godmother named Winkle who wants to become human. One day, a real live fairy appears in front of her to grant a wish-or was that just in her story? Reality and fiction intertwine as Ada becomes friends with her unusual new elderly neighbor Elyria, who has moved into the magically renovated Fairy Cottage. Either Elyria is just a retired antiques dealer who's never seen a computer, or she's a fairy in human form. In any case, Elyria is the friend that Ada needed to move past her grief and help her rekindle her creativity and her joy.
