Carol Flake Chapman’s aim as a writer has been to heal the world with words, which sounds like a daunting task. It was a challenge she took on first as a writer of nonfiction stories and books, then as a poet. But sometimes that work of healing with words can be as simple as offering words of comfort in the form of a blessing. Inspired by the Celtic tradition of blessings she had absorbed during her time in Ireland, she began writing a series of blessings for her friends who were going through hard times, infusing the words with the spiritual resonance of her Choctaw and as well as her Celtic heritage, reflecting her own experiences of healing through the natural world. In The Little Book of Daily Blessings, she has brought a timely freshness to the long-established tradition of offering blessings, crafting an uplifting response to the setbacks, losses and frustrations of everyday life, from dealing with rush-hour traffic, tussling with technology, or simply enduring a down time. Her book is a a bright ray of sunshine on a dark day, a heartfelt boost to revive the spirits. The perfect gift for someone in need of a kind word or a thoughtful reflection.
