Synopsis

Young and sheltered, Ponder Porcupine doesn't want to accompany Mama to visit the Muskrat family. "They stink," he says. But on a fishing trip with Papa Porcupine, Ponder comes face to face with several homeless neighbors. Their houses have been washed away by a flood and they are climbing into dumpsters to find food. The experience leaves a bad feeling deep down inside him.

After praying and a bit of gentle parenting, Ponder discovers when you give to someone in need, you receive something wonderful in return.

About the Author

Marla F. Jones has read thousands of children's books. Literally. As a first-grade teacher, story time was her favorite part of the day. As a writer, Jones has authored four picture books-Ponder Learns to be Thankful, Let's Follow Them, We're Counting on Noah's Ark, and The Night the Mice Sang. As an artist, she has illustrated five. She uses a colorful mix of media, papers, fabrics and found objects, and layers them to create texture and dimension to her folk-art style. Jones is a member of the Oklahoma Writers Federation. She currently owns Doodle and Peck Publishing, where she pairs up talented authors and illustrators to make fun, educational, family-friendly books.
