About the Authors

Fred Rohan-Vargas is of Latino Caribbean descent. He is an eclectic artist who has written several plays, short stories, articles, poetry, and songs. Mr. Rohan-Vargas holds an MFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and has taught for 25 years in New York City's public school system. He loves the power of words and their impact on people, whether viewed on stage, in film or imagined in a book. One of his notable works, "The Island of Yaki Yim Bamboo," was transformed into a captivating musical that graced the stage of the prestigious 13th Street Repertory Theatre Company in 2015. Mr. Rohan-Vargas lives in New York with his family and works as a playwright, songwriter, and producer in the theatre industry.

Millicent F. Arrindell, a first-time author of Caribbean descent, was captivated by Fred Rohan-Vargas's play "The Island of Yaki Yim Bamboo." Their shared love for Caribbean culture led them to collaborate on the book based on Rohan-Vargas's play with the same title. Ms. Arrindell graduated from The City College of New York with a major in Graphic Arts Education. She worked for many years in both the healthcare and retail businesses. Now retired, she travels and explores new horizons with friends and family. "People will have as much enjoyment reading this book as the authors had writing it," she states.
