Welcome to Slarth, where magic makes you stupid — and somebody needs to fix that before it's too late.
The Slarth School for Sublime Studies in Sophisticated Sorcery and Spellcasting has never been normal. A half-human ghost roams the campus. A troll is hopelessly in love. A middle-aged dragon still lives in his mother's basement. Weird is just Tuesday here.
But something worse than weird is happening: magic itself is draining people's intelligence. Students are getting spells right and IQ points wrong. Teachers are forgetting how to teach. And if nobody stops it, the smartest place in the world is about to become the dumbest.
Enter the last people anyone would trust with saving civilization: a school nurse, a boy blessed (or cursed?) by an immortal chicken, and some ragtag friends they pick up along the way. Their only lead is a talisman that may or may not exist — and someone is willing to burn the whole school down to make sure they never find it.
