Synopsis

Three friends, three different paths… one promise.

In a world collapsing under fascism and war, a promise forged in childhood becomes a lighthouse for three friends coming of age in Nazi Germany.

Hannah, a strong-willed Jewish woman, is targeted by the Nazi regime’s persecution and Hitler’s “Final Solution.” She flees to Paris to protect her family, but Hitler’s army is never far behind. She must keep adapting, and keep searching for safety, in a world determined to destroy her.

Adam, kind, intelligent, and fiercely loyal, struggles to support his family as anti-Jewish laws tighten. His fight to survive leads to a dangerous escape, but the war will soon find his hiding place.

Elisabeth, who embodies strength with gentleness, quietly endures life in her Nazi father’s home while protecting her younger brother. Torn between her family’s loyalties and her own conscience, she confronts a dangerous enemy hidden in her inner circle, and a love that could cost her everything.

In A Promise, Amelia Martin tells a sweeping WWII story of friendship, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit, seen through the eyes of ordinary people living under fascism. Perfect for book clubs and readers of Holocaust historical fiction, A Promise asks how far you would go to keep your word when the whole world stands against you.
