Deborah "Spice" Kleinmann has been in preschool music and arts integration and environmental education for almost 25 years. Her immediate family members were and are educators, so she came to this profession honestly! She was given a challenge a few years back to create a 10-minute performance for preschoolers, and with the help of her spouse, Lizza, she created a character named Grandmother Moon, who told a "Moon Myth" story utilizing props and songs to weave together a magicaltale. Her songwriting and singing provide an extra layer of joy for the children and educators who can extend the performance by teaching real science with the characters and moon phases presented in this book.
Lizza B. Lewis began honing her storytelling skills on long drives with her children in an old van with no radio or electronics. She worked with children and adults with disabilities in different capacities, from foster parent to teacher to physical therapist assistant, retiring as an occupational therapist after 20 years in the Baltimore City school system. When not quilting or helping with the grandchildren, she loves collaborating with her wife, Spice, creating songs and stories for little ones. When Spice shared with Lizza about not finding any suitably positive existing myths about the moon, she encouraged her to write her own and jumped in happily to work with her on this story.
Rosalind Redgrave is an artist and educator from Baltimore. While this is her first book, Rosalind has been creating since she was a child. After getting her degree from Emory University, Rosalind worked designing murals to be painted in schools across DC. While in DC, she then followed her love of working with children back home to Baltimore and became a special education teacher. It was while working as a special education teacher that Rosalind illustrated How the Moon Got Up In the Sky. She got the opportunity after reconnecting with family friends, Spice and Lizza. She then painted furiously during her weekends at cafes around the city and at home with her cat, Strider.
