Synopsis

Max & Jules: How to be Brave is a book about a retired police dog named Max and his sister, a skittish housedog named Jules. 

Max wonders if Jules is really a cat. A scaredy cat. Jules shows Max that she is very much a dog but begins to wonder why she is afraid of so many things, and Max isn't. Jules asks Max why he is not afraid of things. Max says he is afraid sometimes; he is just brave. Jules is confused and wonders how you can be brave but still afraid. Max tells her that being brave does not mean you are not afraid of things but can overcome your fears.

Max & Jules is a book about how it is OK to be afraid, but you don't want fear to hold you back. Max gives Jules and, hopefully, the kids who read the book strategies on how to overcome those fears.

About the Authors

Chantelle Moynihan-Rector, M.Ed. was born in Camp LeJeune, NC. She has her master's in education with a concentration in school counseling. She has been a practicing school counselor for 20 years in Gilford, NH, where she currently lives. Her experience as a school counselor over the course of two decades has given her a unique perspective on how fear and anxiety have increased among our school-age population. It is her hope that this book and Max will help kids see that fear is normal and that having strategies can help ease and overcome those fears so they can maneuver the world more confidently. In addition to being a first-time children's author and school counselor, Chantelle is a mother to three, a stepmother to two, a wife, an entrepreneur, and a dog mom to Max, a retired police K9, and Juliet (aka Jules). She enjoys spending time outdoors and playing her new favorite sport, pickleball.: )Chantelle is looking forward to publishing her next book about Max's struggles to get into the police K9 program. His high energy and high drive (ADHD in human terms: )) almost kept him out of the training program. It wasn't until he was trained in a way that he learned best that he became a very successful, highly regarded part of the police force. Her husband is a retired police officer who was Max's handler.

Laura Hafer is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning. She works as a graphic designer by day while illustrating and drawing at night. She lives in Florence, Kentucky, with her husband, two lovely children, and an extremely spoiled dog. Laura enjoys reading all manner of books, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and spending time with her family. This is the third children's book she has illustrated, and she looks forward to doing many more.
