Get Excited About STEM! Throughout their journey to STEM success, the STEMsational Problem Solvers, Aliyah, Graciela, and Drew, work together to overcome obstacles from a mischievous cat named Whiskers. Together the Problem Solvers use STEM strategies inspired by their role model and Mathematician, Dr. Gladys B. West whose calculations contributed to the development of the modern GPS System.
This book is perfect for elementary to middle school-aged students, and teachers looking for a way to empower young people through STEM education!
Why is this book important?
STEM (Science, technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education has become a major component of curriculums in schools and community learning. But as in many other aspects of education, the gap has widened between wealthy and low-income schools. There are vast differences in funds for equipment and training for STEM programs that have impacted the achievement of students in underfunded schools. This has led to an underrepresentation of minorities and girls in STEM. This book features a minority female lead character in hopes that it can inspire a new generation of STEMsational Problem Solvers.
What people are saying?
“This delightful story and its fun illustrations teach the importance of teamwork in problem-solving. It’s brilliantly written to attract students to science, technology, engineering, and math programs. I love how GPS Pioneer, Gladys West, serves as a major influence on the main character in this story. Bravo!”
-Dr. Sandra Barnes, Clinical Psychologist
“Dr. Goldberg shows how the engineering design process can be used in everyday life by demonstrating the concept in this enjoyable picture book. Help students see they are probably already using the process for everyday situations without even realizing it.”
