About the Author
Johanny Ortega is a proud Dominican book lover who finds comfort and reflection in stories, often discovering pieces of herself within them. Much like Isla, the young heroine of Mrs. Franchy's Evil Ring, Johanny once faced the challenges of adjusting to life with a stepmother after immigrating to the United States.Years later, her journey came full circle when she became a stepmother herself. Johanny quickly realized that blending families goes beyond stepping into new roles; it's about challenging misconceptions and proving love through consistent actions. During the height of Covid, when her stepchildren lived with her and her husband for six months, Johanny drew on her experiences as both a stepchild and a stepmom. These reflections culminated in Mrs. Franchy's Evil Ring, a heartfelt middle-grade novel that delves into navigating fears, building trust, and embracing the complexities of blended families.Written for children like Isla and the grown-ups who support them, the book offers a compassionate exploration of family, resilience, and the transformative power of understanding.
