The book describes Ballendine’s accomplishments, including construction of his by-pass canals at Seneca Falls in Virginia and at Little Falls in Maryland in the 1700s, which reduced loss of boat cargoes and saved lives. The book includes many black and white and color pictures, maps, and drawings. Ballendine’s works significantly increased agriculture in Virginia and Maryland, and inspired the future development of the C&O Canal.
