Facsimile of the 1922 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Red Bank, New Jersey, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. The seventy-one numbered sheets work block by block from the stores, banks, hotels and theatres along Broad Street, Front Street, Monmouth Street, White Street, Mechanic Street, Wallace Street and Shrewsbury Avenue - the Borough Hall, the Post Office, the Armory, the Broad Street National Bank, the Second National Bank and Red Bank Trust Company buildings, the Eisner Building, the Palace, Globe, Strand and Lyceum theatres, the Masonic, Odd Fellows, K. of C. and K. of P. halls, the Y. M. C. A. Building, the B. P. O. E. Club House, the Monmouth Boat Club House, and the Hotel Pontin, Hotel Abbott, New Liberty, Sheridan, Union, Atlantic, Grand View and Monmouth hotels - through the Central Railroad of New Jersey and New York and Long Branch depots, the Jersey Central Traction Company sub-station, the Public Service Electric Company power house, the Consolidated Gas Company gasometer, the Borough water works and the Tintern Manor Water Company pumping station, the S. Eisner Company, Cohen and Goldstein, Garuto Brothers, Powers and C. E. Conover clothing factories, the Red Bank Yacht Works, C. P. Irwin's boat shop, the Merchant Steamboat Company, J. W. Mount's auto body works, the Roberts Safety Water Tube Boiler Company, the Red Bank Steam Dye Works and laundries, the Monmouth Ice and Independent Ice companies, the Burrowes, Lewis and Sieling lumber yards and planing mills, the Standard Oil, Texas and Gulf oil tanks, the U. S. Army Q. M. C. warehouse, the dairies, nurseries and farms, and the D. A. Walling Estate distillery at Tinton Falls, to the Junior and Senior High Schools, the Oakland Street, Mechanic Street, River Street and Beach Street schools, the Shrewsbury Academy, St. James Roman Catholic Church and School, Trinity and St. Thomas Episcopal, Christ Church, the First Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Pilgrim Baptist, First Methodist Episcopal, Embury, Grace, First Presbyterian, First Reformed, St. Anthony's and A. M. E. Zion churches, the Town Hall, St. Dorothea's and St. James churches at Eatontown, the Rumson Country Club and the estates of Rumson, and the residential streets of the West Side, Tower Hill, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Shrewsbury, Eatontown and River Plaza.
In 1922 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Red Bank and vicinity for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the business streets of Red Bank and Fair Haven at fifty feet to the inch, the outer streets, Little Silver, Rumson, Shrewsbury, Eatontown, River Plaza and Tinton Falls at one hundred feet to the inch, and the open country of Fair Haven, Little Silver and Shrewsbury Township at two hundred and four hundred feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
This Exile Books edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: the title sheet, the index with the fire and water report, the key map, all seventy-one numbered map sheets, 1 to 71, and the two skeleton sheets of sheets 1 and 2, printed at 8.5 x 11 inches on premium color paper. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Red Bank address back to 1922.

The Sanborn Map Company of New York, founded by D. A. Sanborn in 1867 and by the 1900s headquartered at 11 Broadway, surveyed thousands of American cities for the fire-insurance trade. Its large-scale plans record every building's footprint, construction, height and use, and remain the most detailed record of the early twentieth-century American city.
