Synopsis
INSTRUMENTS OF WRATH is a mythologically based YA fantasy infused with aspects of the paranormal. The story is set in the far future, where society has fully moved under the sea. Protected by climate-controlled domes, the world has been divided into seven kingdoms mirroring their mythic namesakes. Every seventy-five years, a blood-bound trial based on the myth of Pandora's Box is held, involving two royals and one lottery participant from every kingdom. Each challenge is derived from humanity's curses: death, starvation, sickness, greed, and torture, but the final trial has always been unknown. The trials serve as a reminder that a functioning society requires sacrifice from all.
Eighteen-year-old Helena Holcreiter wishes for nothing more than to escape the burdens of her past and live freely. Working as a maid in the palace of Asphodel, she is invisible-until one fateful evening when she is seen by two individuals who turn her world upside down: Maximo Valencia, a dead prince of the old world, and the brutally scarred crown prince Riu Tuhoro of Asphodel. Now faced with solving a host of ghosts' unfinished business and thrust into the ruthless Pandorian Trials alongside both friends and foes, Helena is forced into the spotlight as her trauma rises to the surface. With so many lives resting in the palm of her hand, will she crash and burn on the world's stage, or become their savior?
