Synopsis

The long staff, wielded two-handed, is one of the most powerful weapons in Philippine martial tradition. Much less known than the one-handed short stick and the double sticks, it reveals an approach to combat based on distance, fluidity, and strategies applicable to weapon classes such as machetes and swords, as well as to multiple opponents.

This technical manual offers progressive instruction in the fundamentals, principles, and combat applications of the Filipino long staff. Designed as a practical guide, this book is intended for both beginners and experienced practitioners eager to expand their understanding of long-staff combat within Filipino fighting systems.

Grand Master Dani FAYNOT is a direct student of the Great Grand Master José Ména, one of the legends of Filipino Martial Arts, with whom Dani studied for several years in the Philippines. He received the title of Punong Guro (Master Instructor) and the highest rank in the school: Black Belt 10th Degree in Arnis Doblete Rapilon. He is one of the very few non-Filipinos to be recognized by Filipino masters in the Philippines as a representative of a major traditional system.
