If there is one commonality between every addict, regardless of addiction, it’s the question, “Why me?”
In answering that, let’s start off by acknowledging you’re not crazy; you’re malfunctioning. That means we can fix you. That is, if you’re willing to become educated about what it is about your brain that makes you who and what you are.
This is not academic work. What it is, is an explanation of why we think the way we do. Here, we try to explain in brief, clear, and simple language what makes an addict an addict. Not from the point of view of what we do, but from why we think the way we do.
This we can do because we are like you. We’ve been there, done that, and got the mugshot. We make no excuses. Instead, we explain how the brain works. And with that knowledge, you can do what needs to be done to recover from a hopeless condition of mind and body.
Neurobiological research tells us that by understanding the workings of the brain we can get a better understanding of the causes and conditions of addiction. This work concentrates on explaining the mechanics of the brain. Not as a scientist or student, but as someone who wants to know what’s wrong with them. Before a mechanic can fix what’s broken, they must know what’s wrong. In this work we bring to the reader the understanding of the subject matter experts – the addicts themselves.
