It was the summer of 1963. The pace of the world was much slower and the most important thing to a nine-year old boy was his bike and his friends. The freedom to explore and pretend was only restricted by the setting sun...
Innocent to the world’s problems, during perhaps one of the most historically significant periods in his life, Paul enlists the help of an unlikely source to help him unravel the mystery of the man under the bridge. Based on real events of his childhood, the author recounts his chance encounter with a homeless man referred to as Bones and the unspoken friendship that developed between them.
Individuals once referred to as Bums, Tramps or Hobos were primarily found near railways or under bridges. They were thought by most to be lazy, dirty and somewhat scary, but rarely were they thought of as kind, hurting or even human.
In Bones, Paul recognizes the hurt and needs of the man under the bridge and at age nine, decides to give him something more precious than money.
Set in the shadow of the San Bernardino Mountains, this heart-warming tale is filled with nostalgic adventures, sorrow and love. Put those baseball cards in your spokes and come ride along with Paul and his friends as they race to beat the streetlights.
