Synopsis
The dialogues in The Hidden Life of Things investigate just about everything-all the things of our lives lying dormant in our minds and all the things lying under our feet yet to be uncovered and seen intensely. They are transcripts of twenty-one meetings between a retired college English teacher whose perspective is language in its cultural setting and a practicing Jungian psychotherapist whose interests include memories, dreams, shamanism, and spiritual democracy. Their meetings look into-among myriad other sources-dreams, visioning, and metaphor, and the unitary force that permeates the Cosmos. They take a fresh and unprejudged look at assumptions that affect the way we live our lives but rarely examine, a few of which include morality, religion, ethics, sexuality, meaning, the self, the spirit, beauty, compassion, animal intelligence.
