He survived the Malta Siege and was amongst first assault waves on the Invasions of Sicily, Italy and Gold Beach, Jig Section on D-Day. This is a book that had to be written. David J Powis was a infantryman in the 2nd Devonshire Regiment and later front line 231 Brigade Intelligence Section who had an exceptionally high casualty rate. Author David J Powis wasn't the army type and questioned the official narrative. His book doesn't glorify conflict, it's 100% true and gives a graphic account and is an accurate historical record.
