Synopsis
Jean Alfred Villain-Marais, dit Jean Marais, est né le 11 décembre 1913 à Cherbourg. Débutant sa carrière comme acteur de cinéma et de théâtre, il se dirigera vers la peinture et la sculpture, la décoration et la mise en scène.
En 1933, Marcel l'Herbier ne lui donne qu'un rôle de figurant, il est remarqué grâce à son physique et sa voix. En 1937, il croise le chemin de Jean Cocteau lors d'une audition pour la mise en scène d'Oedipe Roi; cette rencontre marquera toute la carrière de Jean Marais qui déclara; " Je suis né deux fois, le 11 décembre 1913 et en 1937 le jour où j'ai rencontré Jean Cocteau". Celui-ci sera son mentor tout au long de ses débuts dans le monde artistique.
