Synopsis

Essentials of Fixed Income Securities is a concise, practice driven guide for anyone looking to build a solid foundation in bonds-students, new analysts, career switchers, or self taught investors. Starting with the time value of money, it moves logically through today's landscape of government, corporate, and securitized debt, always linking each concept to real-world decisions.

The book covers pricing for conventional, zero coupon, floating rate, callable, and puttable bonds; calculation of yield, duration, convexity, and key rate risk; interpretation of the yield curve; navigation of treasury auctions and other market mechanisms; assessment of credit and market risks across instruments, including mortgage backed securities; and conversion of these insights into simple portfolio strategies.

Every chapter blends clear explanation with worked examples and problem sets, then provides step-by-step instructions for solving them in Excel and on a financial calculator. A comprehensive online question bank extends practice well beyond the text. Key formulas, exact keystrokes and italicized terms are laid out for quick review, making the book a desk reference, a hands-on workbook alongside more advanced texts, and a practical aid for certification programs.

Whether employed in a classroom, during team onboarding, or for independent upskilling, Essentials of Fixed Income Securities delivers the clarity, practicality, and confidence needed to navigate the fixed income market.
