Psychopathology: A Case-Based Approach provides future practitioners with the requisite knowledge base and skill sets essential to treating mental disorders and abnormal behavior. The textbook recognizes the complex, multifaceted nature of treating mental disorders and reveals the interconnectedness of the constructs and dynamics inherent in such treatment.
The text provides the reader with a foundational understanding of a vast range of mental disorders, as well as effective, evidence-based treatments for each. It presents current scholarly research regarding theories, approaches, strategies, and techniques for working with specific populations of clients. Additional sections address psychotropic medications and their effectiveness; DSM-5-TR and ICD-10(11) and how they interrelate with mental disorders; and ethical, legal, and practical guidelines critical to establishing an effective and meaningful practice. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their motives for becoming a mental health professional, including their personal state of wellness and life adjustments that may be necessary to support their practice.
The revised first edition reflects updates for DSM-5-TR.
Written to provide fundamental knowledge and encourage mastery of understanding mental disorders and relevant treatment options, Psychopathology is an ideal resource for counselors-in-training as well as practicing mental health professionals.
