After you filter out all of the noise, the only thing that determines a trader’s profitability in the financial markets is the price action while they are in a trade.
Even the methods that use fundamental analysis like value investing and growth stock investing only make money when the price eventually moves in the right direction to create profits for their theories and bets. Investors look at the fundamentals of a company and the relationship that value has with the price of the company’s stock. Price is part of the input for investing strategies and trading strategies. The price action trader makes price the primary input of their trading decisions from entry to exit. Price filters through all of the opinions of market participants and quantifies the current agreement between buyers and sellers.
Price action trading creates signals for entering and exiting a chart for profits over time. An entry signal shows when to get in, and the exit signal shows when to get out. We do not trade opinions and predictions about what is happening on the chart. When the winning trades add up to more than the losing trades, we have found an edge. That is what the price action trader is in search of, a trading strategy with an edge.
