This devotional commentary on Hebrews is the third in the Outlier Devotional Guide series beginning with 1 Peter An OSG In Hard Places and 2 Peter An OSG In Dark Places. They are transliteration of passages informally and direct from KJV (1769) text with Strong’s numbers and morphology unless otherwise stated to let scripture interprets scripture with some personal commentary from the author whose main contribution is to frame a certain perspective for Christians and seekers to read and understand the Bible’s relevance for their everyday lives.
The writer of Hebrews set out to put forth the challenges of power and authority in high places while establishing the supremacy of Jesus Christ above prophets, angels and priesthood. Jesus is the Firstborn of many children of glory who must run the conflict with faith upon Him, the Author and Perfecter of our faith and not be disqualified by shrinking from fear, unbelief and resisting the Father’s chastening love on His children.
Like the heroes of faith gone before us, we yearn for better things and esteem Christ’s reproach greater riches than Egypt’s treasures, choosing to struggle against sin and suffer injustices in order to attain perfection in love and good acts, honour and glory with Christ outside the four walls of the Ecclesia.
The 30 reading is best used by peers, small group in mutual edification to understand the intimate relationship between God the Father and His Son necessitating the latter’s joyful willingness to endure the cross and despising its shame. Consequently, we understand the Father’s heart to chasten us in order to perfect us, leading many daughters and sons to glory and honour.
