Synopsis

Alex Helsby, a retired man enjoying a quiet and comfortable life, is anything but idle. A passionate history buff and amateur archaeologist, he spends his days exploring the past, until one discovery changes everything. While researching the origins of his cherished local church, Alex uncovers evidence that the site once lay at the heart of a battlefield from the Second English Civil War.
His curiosity ignites into obsession when he learns that the surrounding farmland is considered one of the most pristine, untouched battlefield sites in the country. Armed with nothing more than a metal detector and a keen eye, Alex begins a personal excavation. The results are promising, until a violent storm forces him to shift his search to a neighbouring field.
There, the past begins to speak louder.
Despite interference from a rival treasure hunter with similar ambitions, Alex makes extraordinary discoveries. Among them: a buried safe containing priceless relics from a forgotten age, and a mysterious parchment bearing the enigmatic Sanctuary Cipher.
Driven by a mix of scholarly thrill and personal conviction, Alex deciphers the code. What it reveals is astonishing: a hidden tunnel beneath the church. With the rector’s cautious blessing, Alex undertakes a covert and perilous excavation.
What he uncovers defies belief.
Inside the tunnel lie manuscripts long thought lost, original works attributed to William Shakespeare, and documents that shed light on the secretive origins of Freemasonry in England. The implications are staggering, and Alex finds himself at the centre of a historical revelation that could rewrite the cultural legacy of a nation.
