Synopsis

The Coronavirus has sent the world into turmoil and the church is not immune. The closure of church buildings have led people to ask fundamental questions such as 'Which buildings should be opened again and which shouldn't ?', 'What is the church actually for and what is it doing ?', 'How does it work without a building ?' These, and many other questions provide huge challenges today but this situation has also offered, through sadness and tragedy, opportunity. The opportunity to evaluate where we are as a church, how well we're serving God and other people, how well we are being, as well as sharing good news to others. Ultimately Ian Rees is suggesting that there's been a lot of talking about the future of the church, and this tragedy has caused us to recognise that the time for talking is over, it's time for action. It's time for re-focusing on God, re-energising and renewing. The Archbishop of Wales writes in his Foreword : 'In a number of places, the urgency of the situation to which Ian Rees points has been and is being recognised, as is the excitement and new life which embracing change can bring. I commend his efforts and thank him for reminding us again that what doesn’t change is in danger of dying.'
