Synopsis

I don’t know about you, but I am a lover of the Psalms. The book of Psalms is filled with every human emotion imaginable. When we find ourselves in places anywhere from fear to trust, from anger to belief, from doubt to faith, from angst and anxiety to hope, we can find inspired words of God in Scripture to align our hearts with truth. The Psalms are so rich. They’re so timely and important. Psalms are for life. They are practical. They are relevant. They are applicable to the things we are going through today.

For the next 12 months we are going to be memorizing one Bible verse every week. The Bible memory verses for each month will fit a theme. In the first month, for example, our theme is trust, and the Bible verses from the book of Psalms we will be memorizing will all circle around the theme of trust—what it looks like to trust in the Lord, the benefits of trusting in the Lord, and the challenges of trying to trust in the Lord when we are in difficult situations.

I am so excited about the themes we are going to be studying this year. Do you find yourself in a season of waiting right now? Do you struggle when you find yourself waiting for that answered prayer, waiting for the Lord to move, waiting for Him to show up on your behalf? We are going to spend a whole month talking about this. We are also going to spend a month on anxiety. Do you know how many Psalms talk about anxiety? The Bible is NOT silent on this struggle that so many of us deal with on a daily basis. We are going to look at fear. We are going to look at petition. The writers of the Psalms go all out in petitioning God for the things they desire. It gives us such freedom to petition God for things and to go to Him with that type of fervor and desire. We’ll also look at grief and healing.

The Psalms are just so rich with practical application for our lives today. They were written thousands of years ago, but they are relevant to us. That is why I’m calling our study this year Psalms for Life. We are going to be memorizing so many of them this year as we go through each month. Each week, I want to invite you to engage through the entire Psalm that your memory verse comes from. Read through it in its entirety. The Psalms are short, and it’s not going to be difficult for us to get through them this way. Engage as much as you can. We will have so many Psalms under our belt by the end of this year, and I cannot help but wonder what harvest it will bring in our faith, in our worship, and in our love for the Lord.
