Numbers are more than counting tools. The ancient Greeks realized they had form and meaning. They classified numbers as even or odd and triangular or square. Odd numbers could produce square numbers and natural numbers or what we call integers could produce triangular numbers. Triangular numbers then could be added to produce squares.
