Synopsis
Austin lawyer Roy Coobie is thrust into the defense of a poor, Black elderly man from a settlement in East Travis County. Cal Taylor is indicted for murder. Coobie takes on the case with the help of the mysterious investigator F.B. Godinez and a nonconformist sometime secretary who is also his girlfriend. Surprisingly he discovers the legendary trial lawyer Winston Hatchett who has gone underground in an eldercare establishment. Coobie is drawn to Hatchett amid the pressures of a murder trial in the unique and colorful Austin past, before much of it was swept away by “progress” and growth.
