Synopsis

Contemporary French Catholic philosopher Emmanuel Falque has risen to the forefront among international intellectuals speaking on Christianity. Inspired by his Catholic faith as well as his humanist vision, Falque offers thought-provoking answers to today’s social, cultural, and philosophical issues. The present book, newly translated from the French, offers a vivid and highly accessible introduction to the basic premises underlying Falque’s work. In it, French author Alain Saudan lucidly shows how Falque’s thought not only comes from major twentieth-century pioneers of Catholicism, Henri de Lubac, SJ, Jacques Maritain, Jürgen Moltmann, Karl Rahner, SJ, and Jean-Luc Marion, but also creatively transcends their ideas by introducing novel concepts into philosophy and theology. Saudan’s book offers a window into key debates, tensions, and opportunities within the Western tradition that religious and secular cultures are continuing to grapple with today.
