Can a match made in heaven survive the holiday from hell?
Karen Kay is 28, unmarried, in a dull job and thinks of herself as ‘Audrey Hepburn with a muffin top’.
Longing for glamour, culture and something to spice up her flagging relationship with the slightly dull but reliable Steve, she books an all-inclusive holiday to the sun-soaked island of San Itairi.
Upon arrival, Karen is shocked by the prejudice, squalor and violence she encounters - and that’s just the other British tourists! When she meets art critic Ian Hurst, he seems to offer a way in to the sophisticated world she craves - but at the risk of ruining things with Steve.
As the politically unstable island erupts into a revolution, Karen realises she could be about to lose not only her boyfriend - but also her life!
