Handedness is a genetic thing, with about 89% of the human population being right-hand dominant, plus 10% left-hand dominant and 1% ambidextrous. The natural occurrence indicates that we're made this way. Statistically, developed countries usually have a higher percentage of lefties, such as Britain at 13% or the US at 11%.
This book takes an advanced approach for left-handed children to learn how to write better with their left hand. Handwriting practice is a tedious exercise. To make it fun, this book tells stories. Children practice handwriting along with storylines that make the practice interesting. Secondly, this book utilizes an approach that professional font developers use when designing fonts in regulating letter size and shape. As one of the font designers, I was trained to "set the tune" of a new to-be-designed font before outlining the detailed structures of each letter. The tune-setting letters are n, o, H, and O, followed by the most challenged "s." We will introduce these leading letters at the beginning of this book. Children will learn to write these leading letters first and then approach the rest letters in the alphabet based on their understanding of these leading letters.
An additional feature to jump-start the better-handwriting is the added frame around each letter at the begging of the writing practice. This subtle feature is critical for children to balance the letter sizes and space in between subconsciously.
This book has no page numbers, as you will notice. That's because each section or page can be used independently for practice. A child can learn only some letters to be a skillful writer. The key is the hand fine motor skill associated with pens or pencils.
