Synopsis

Descansa en el Poder: A Sacred Guide to Ancestral Communion and Artful Resistance is a companion book that delves into the immersive experience of Denise Zubizarreta’s exhibition. This powerful guide explores the stories and histories of the ancestors whose voices and lives have been hidden for generations. Through the interplay of art, ritual, and sensory elements like scent and sound, Denise invites readers to engage deeply with the spiritual essence of her work.

The book serves as both a blueprint and a bible, offering insights into the meaning and intention behind each piece in the exhibition, such as ‘La Ultima Cena,’ a reimagining of The Last Supper that reclaims the power of representation, and ‘Reliquias de Mis Abuelos: Echoes of Ancestral Devotion,’ a display of personal artifacts connecting past and present generations. With reflective essays, guided rituals, and imagery from the exhibition, this book is a journey into the sacred and the powerful, encouraging readers to honor their roots, challenge colonial narratives, and find strength in the stories of those who came before.

Whether you experienced the exhibition in person or are discovering it through these pages, “Descansa en el Poder” invites you to commune with the spirit of possibilities, celebrate ancestral wisdom, and reclaim the power of your lineage.
