ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A descendant of Huguenots and native Hawaiians, Sam Van Culin was born in Honolulu in 1930 and earned degrees at Princeton University and Virginia Theological Seminary before his ordination as an Episcopal priest in 1955. After serving congregations in Hawaii and Washington, D.C., Van Culin coordinated groundbreaking global mission initiatives at the Church's headquarters in New York City before serving for a decade in London as the first Secretary General of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
