Joe Ford is M.I.A. and no one seems particularly eager to solve this Charleston Lowcountry caper. Worried her grandfather may be fiddler crab food at the bottom of the marsh, Alex Ford takes a page out of Nancy Drew to solve the mystery. While cleaning out Grandpa Joe’s office, she finds hundreds of files containing dossiers on everything from the Boohag Swamp Monster to eerie Number Stations to Zamboids. Alex begrudgingly teams up with Charlie Parker, a local weirdo and conspiracy theorist, who explains that he and Grandpa Joe were investigating the dark secrets of the 33rd Parallel before Joe vanished.
Kidnapped by a gothic cowboy wanted for a 1849 murder, the amateur detectives’ investigation takes them by gunpoint to Dark Charleston- a world sprung from the macabre imagination of Edgar Allen Poe, inhabited by some of history’s most notorious villains, and in the murky throes of battle between The Shadow and The Light.
