Synopsis
Thousands of books have already been written about the great leaders and battles of the American Civil War. So few volumes, however, deal with the intense experience of actually being a soldier during that war, fighting for his life in service of a higher cause. These are stories of survival and sacrifice, bravery and desperation in the face of overwhelming odds. Another story often overlooked is that of the soldier's family back home - his wife, his children, his parents - and the anxious existence they lived every day, hoping and praying for the return of their loved ones on the battlefront. Thunder and Song directly faces the harshness, the personal ugly truth of war, while also holding on tight to the sentimentality of the human soul during troubled times.
