What makes you happy or unhappy? “A McDonald’s Big Mac”? Or “ Getting a D on your math test.”?
The author of this book, Jeson Zhang, is a high school student and believes the answer is NO. This conclusion is based on the theoretical perspective of humanistic psychology and the research reports of adolescents on this topic.
The root of your happiness is not outside activities but inside needs. Eating a Big Mac satisfies your need to survive, thus making you happy. You are unhappy when you get a D in math because your need for success is not satisfied, or your mom will cut your WIFI, and your need for socializing cannot be reached.
In short, you are happy because your inner needs are met. Unhappiness comes from your needs not being met. It's as simple as that. Knowing that makes you more self-responsible, more possibilities, and better relationships.
In this book, Jeson collected his own learning experience and some of the inner voices of other youths on this topic, hoping that more people can understand teenagers and human nature.
