From the author of the dystopian science fiction novel, The Last Book Ever Written, comes a new collection of short stories. At times a biting satire on modern society, at other times a refreshing take on what glues us together and pulls us apart, The Armor You Built travels to worlds both real and magical. Kruvant transports us to a pizzeria in New York to the technological district of Tokyo to an alternative universe where musical notes are currency and tax forms are considered art. In all of these settings, the protagonists have built an armor of protection that they need to shed in order to reveal their true selves.
“Kruvant offers a thought-provoking collection of short stories that seamlessly blend satire, philosophical musings, and science fiction…Central to the collection is that theme of authenticity and the fight against the sometimes-oppressive facades built up by cultural and familial influences, explored through a nuanced examination of what it means to truly be oneself in a world that often demands conformity…That ability to craft distinct and immersive worlds within the confines of short stories drives the collection, each offering serving as a microcosm for larger societal issues and philosophical questions. Kruvant’s prose is sharp and incisive, cutting through civil pretenses with biting satire and keen observations.”

"Kruvant’s genre-blending short-story collection seeks to interrogate the ways that people find value and connection...”
—Kirkus Reviews
“From Naples, Italy, to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, to a village in Colombia to a raging fire in California, these splendid, beautifully told stories illuminate both the dark and light corners of the heart, each one a nugget of truth and emotion you won’t soon forget.”
—Peter Golden, author of Nothing is Forgotten
“Visionary story telling transforms reality, and this collection of stories aims to do just that. Don’t miss the successes, and, sometimes more enlightening, the failures of the characters in this collection of tales of the past, present, and the future. Their enlightening experiences, whether they learn from them or not, enlighten the reader too.”
—Tod Davies, editorial director of Exterminating Angel Press and author of the visionary fiction series, The History of Arcadia
