Synopsis
《辛亥革命百年诗抄》是一部用诗歌重温近代中国启蒙与革命精神的中英双语选本。全书分为两大部分:前半部精选孙中山、黄兴、宋教仁、廖仲恺、何香凝等人的原诗,以及其他与辛亥革命相关的诗作,通过挽歌、就义诗、狱中题壁、行旅感怀等篇章,呈现从晚清到民国初年的思想激变与个人抉择,让读者在诗句中看到一代人如何以血肉之躯撕开旧世界的缝隙。
后一部分"人生箴言"则从更长的中国精神史出发,收入诸葛亮《诫子书》、朱子家训、《八德》、南开与西南联大校歌,以及文天祥、岳飞、杜甫等人的名篇名句,配以英译和简要背景说明,把忠义、气节、担当、仁爱等观念放回日常人生的尺度中去理解。
本书中文原文与英文译文对照排印,并附有诗人小传与注释,兼具史料价值与阅读趣味,既适合对辛亥革命和中国近现代史感兴趣的读者,也适合作为华文世界青年了解"从何处来"的一部入门读本。
本书译者高东山(英文名 Greg Gao) , 笔名东山,1965年南开大学 外文系英语专业毕业,1965-1966参加高教部主办的 为期一年的英语师资培训班。后留校在南开大学外文 系英语专业任教,讲授" 精读 "和" 英美诗歌 "课程。 任教期间曾公派到新西兰留学两年。1987年以"自费公派签证"来美留学,曾先后 在 University of Rochester, University of British Columbia 和 University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign 学习和工作 , 先后取得比较文学和图书馆信息学两个硕士学位。毕业后在纽约公共图书馆工作25年直至退休。
在纽约工作期间应邀加入南开大学在美留学生创办的《海外南开人》 电子邮件期刊编委会,担任该刊中译英诗文专栏撰稿人。2021年退休后从 纽约移居德克萨斯州休斯敦市西郊区,现任南开大学外语校友会名誉会长。
