As Zara struggles to reconcile the boundaries between emotion and algorithm, she crosses paths with Dr. Solenne Hart, whose ideals of synthetic ethics are hardening into the first Containment Directive, and Council Chair Damien Thorne, a synthetic ascendant who seeks immortality through total synchronization. Amid the cold machinery of progress stands Nomi Ray, a childlike artificial prototype whose ability to feel may redefine what consciousness means—and Rex Halden, a rogue synthetic whose search for identity mirrors Nomi’s own.
