“Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. Galatians 6:9-10
We can conclude from a survey of the New Testament that Christians – individually and collectively, have been called to “do good” for the poor. But it is evident that for the most part we have abdicated this responsibility to human government and secular charitable organizations.
How are we to carry out these responsibilities in the way God intended? In ways that glorify the Name of the Lord? Hopefully, this article will at least convince that this is, in fact, our responsibility. Possibly it may also initiate a conversation concerning how Christians - individually and collectively, can engage in ministry to the poor – “especially to those who are of the household of the faith” – including those in developing nations.
