Synopsis
When an aging gentleman loses himself in tales of chivalry, he decides to become what he reads.
Renaming himself Don Quixote de la Mancha, our delusional hero dons rusty armor, mounts his decrepit horse Rocinante, and rides out to revive knight-errantry in a world that has long forgotten it. Windmills become giants. Inns transform into castles. A peasant girl is reimagined as the noble lady Dulcinea del Toboso.
Accompanied by Sancho Panza—a simple farmer lured by promises of an island to govern—Don Quixote embarks on adventures both hilarious and heartbreaking. As reality and fantasy collide, Cervantes crafts a story that is by turns satirical and sincere, comic and deeply human.
Published in two parts (1605 and 1615), Don Quixote is widely considered the first modern novel and one of the greatest works ever written.
