Synopsis

On a freezing January night in 1975, an exhausted pianist, a broken piano, and a fearless teenage promoter met by accident and changed music forever. Köln 75: The True Story of Genius, Faith, and a Broken Piano unravels the miraculous real-life drama behind Keith Jarrett’s legendary Köln Concert — the best-selling solo piano album in history. What began as a disaster became an act of faith and creation: the wrong instrument, the wrong hour, the right moment. Through vivid storytelling and intimate historical detail, this book takes you behind the scenes — from Vera Brandes’s audacious vision to Jarrett’s near refusal to play, from the haunting first note to the silence that followed. It’s the story of imperfection transformed into beauty, of music that continues to heal listeners across decades, and of the mysterious grace that sometimes arrives through broken things. Discover the night genius met surrender — and faith found its voice in a broken piano. Read Köln 75 today and experience the performance that became a prayer — a masterpiece born not from perfection, but from persistence, spirit, and the courage to play when everything seemed lost.
