Synopsis

Discover Origen’s rich exploration of Scripture, prayer, and the Christian spiritual life.

Complete Work of Origen — Volume 2 of 2 brings together Gospel commentaries, a treatise on prayer, and an anthology of passages from his writings. These works reveal the depth of his biblical interpretation and his conviction that understanding Scripture should shape both faith and conduct.

This volume includes:

• Commentary on the Gospel of John: Extended reflections on the Word, the identity of Christ, and the spiritual significance of the Gospel, presented through the books and fragments included in this collection.

• Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew: Interpretations of Gospel narratives, parables, and teachings that explore their meaning for discipleship and Christian life.

• On Prayer: A thoughtful examination of the purpose and practice of prayer, including an extended interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer.

• The Philocalia: An anthology of selected passages from Origen’s writings, addressing scriptural interpretation, human freedom, and other foundational questions of faith.

How can readers uncover the deeper meaning of Scripture? What does it mean to pray with understanding? How should spiritual knowledge influence daily life? Origen approaches these questions with learning, conviction, and sustained attention to the biblical text.

Published by Sempiterna Press, this second volume completes the collection and offers a substantial resource for students of theology, readers of early Christian literature, and anyone seeking a deeper encounter with the history of biblical interpretation.
