Synopsis
Javier Zumalabe, a neurotechnology engineer at MIT, returns to Donostia to visit a supercomputing center that could change the course of his career. But behind this professional trip lies a far more personal motive: to find Luis Irulea, a former professor, mentor, and friend who disappeared without a trace after returning to the city years earlier.
As he moves through libraries, cafés, and old corners of Donostia, Javier follows Luis’s trail through memories, conversations with those who knew him, and a series of emails they exchanged over the years. In them, they debated the future of technology, human memory, and the dangers of a world in which machines might begin to make decisions for us.
As the search unfolds, Javier discovers that Luis left behind not only unanswered questions, but also a trail of unsettling ideas about identity, consciousness, and the ethical limits of artificial intelligence.
In a city where every street holds a story and every book hides a secret, Bridges of Memory is a novel about friendship, the weight of the past, and the enduring tension between technology and humanity.
Because perhaps memory is not an archive… but a river that carries us toward who we truly are.
