Synopsis
It was more than a mere stroke of luck that God chose me to be born in Britain. There is no other place where I would rather be born and live my life given where my family originates from but just as the joy of life is only made to be joy by the hardship that accompanies it, so too would the struggles in my life make me realise how privileged I am to be born in a Western country. Britain is not perfect, the problems faced by people here include poverty, drug addiction, and unemployment all being things that are felt by many. Although I never grew up in poverty nor have I been affected by these other these specific symptoms of a low trust society, I and my community are plagued with a different kind of predicament that is a product of a culture which is stubbornly at odds with this country’s foundational values. This piece of work (albeit a quote heavy piece of work) is a call for a conversation to be had and a bridge of mutual understanding to be built between the British Pakistani and White British communities.
