Synopsis

Running with Perseverance invites readers to see life as a race of faith. We do not run alone. Behind us are the footprints of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Caleb, Rahab, the judges, David, Samuel, the prophets, and many other witnesses whose stories appear in Hebrews 11. They were not flawless people. They waited, feared, failed, suffered loss, faced uncertainty, and sometimes died without seeing every promise fulfilled within their lifetime. Yet through their lives, faith continues to speak.

This book journeys from Hebrews 11 into Hebrews 12:1-2. The witnesses of faith are not the final destination. Their lives show us what faith can look like in the real world, but the writer of Hebrews ultimately turns our eyes toward one Person: Jesus. For that reason, this is more than a collection of Bible stories. It is an invitation to discover how we are to run the race God has set before us.

What is faith, really? Does faith mean ignoring facts? How do we keep trusting when a promise seems delayed? What do we do when there appears to be no way forward? Why do people of faith still suffer? What is the difference between a hindrance and a sin? How can fear, bitterness, pride, addiction, unhealthy habits, or the need for human approval slowly entangle a runner? And how do we persevere when the race turns out to be far longer and harder than we expected?

Through reflective engagement with Scripture, explorations of significant Greek and Hebrew terms, and stories that connect biblical truth with contemporary life, Running with Perseverance explores faith, endurance, calling, failure, waiting, discipline, restoration, generational legacy, and the courage to keep moving forward.

At several points, Scripture intersects with fragments from the author's own journey-education in Indonesia and Europe, physical training, running, learning to ski in the Alps, family life, teaching, ministry, and personal struggles through different seasons of life. These experiences are never placed above Scripture. Instead, they serve as bridges showing that the same Word that spoke to people thousands of years ago still speaks powerfully into modern life.

The book also reminds us that faith is not a race to become someone else. Each person has a different course. There are seasons to begin, wait, build, surrender, lead, learn, fail, rise again, and prepare the next generation. Faithfulness is not measured by how closely our lives resemble someone else's, but by how faithfully we run the course God has entrusted to us.

In the end, every footprint of faith points beyond the witnesses themselves to Jesus. He went before us. He faced temptation, lived in obedience, wrestled in Gethsemane, endured the cross, and completed the work the Father gave Him to do. We learn from the witnesses, but we fix our eyes on Christ.

Running with Perseverance is for anyone still in the race: young adults searching for direction, parents carrying responsibility, people waiting for unanswered prayers, those trying to rise after failure, leaders preparing the next generation, and older readers who still desire to finish their calling faithfully.

We may not know how much of the course still lies ahead. But we can choose to throw off what weighs us down, break free from what entangles us, rise when we fall, rediscover the course God has given us, and continue running with perseverance-fixing our eyes on Jesus all the way to the finish line.
