The Coaching Life story begins when two colleagues are offered the chance to experience three different types of coaching-Cognitive, Gestalt, and Existential. Initially sceptical, both characters find themselves profoundly affected by the experience. Jasper, a restless IT manager trapped in operational minutiae, discovers his philosophical nature and Simone, a finance manager living what she calls a "dull" life, begins questioning her rigid patterns and people-pleasing tendencies. Their coaching conversations in a London coffee shop become a catalyst for deeper self-examination and when offered coach training in the Lake District, they eagerly accept, beginning a journey that challenges everything they thought they knew about themselves and their careers.
Through the pandemic and online virtual coaching sessions, they develop their skills while grappling with personal revelations. Jasper realises he's been avoiding commitment due to his father's betrayal, while Simone discovers she's been living according to others' expectations rather than her own authentic desires.
The climax comes at an intensive leadership coaching retreat in the Cotswolds where both confront their deepest fears and limiting beliefs. Through powerful exercises exploring their past, present, and future, they finally find the courage to act on their insights.
This short novella explores themes of authenticity, personal growth, and the courage required to change course mid-life. It demonstrates how coaching can unlock potential by helping people understand their own stories, values, and motivations-ultimately leading to more fulfilling personal and professional lives.
Coaching Life is both an introduction to coaching methodology and a compelling story about two people finding the courage to live authentically.
