Synopsis

There are regular moments, and there are Teaching Moments

Max Boucher is hired to find a missing horse in a small town in Idaho, far from his Seattle home.

He arrives in Cedar Peak to stumble on a murder scene, and an odd weapon sparks his interest. The murder must be related to his case, right? But there's something off about the scene and the victim.

A serial killer uses a crossbow and gets away with murder. Or does she?

A mysterious confession underlines the story. But motives and hidden grudges abound in a small town, and everyone seems to know everyone else's business. Someone wants Max off the case, and he has no idea why.

Means, motive, and opportunity elude him, and the only thing keeping Max sane is his canine companion, Russ. Clue after clue seems to point to only one solution.

Secrets, Secrets Everywhere

His clients have secrets, they aren't the only ones. But when Max is drawn even deeper in the case, will he be too close to see the solution? There's only one missing piece to the puzzle, and a twist you won't see coming.

If you love Dean Koontz and Caroline Peckham, you'll love Max Boucher.

Sharp, nail-biting prose that will keep you turning page after page." Vincent Zandri
