Mara Voss is done using her gift. For six years she's kept her head down, stayed invisible, and refused every case that came her way. Psychometry — the ability to read the history of objects through touch — isn't a superpower. It's a weight. And after Chicago, it nearly broke her.
Then a detective slides a dead man's watch across a table, mentions a nine-year-old girl who keeps calling the tip line asking for her father, and Mara picks it up.
One touch tells her Daniel Marsh is still alive — but not for long. It also tells her something far more disturbing: he recognized what was happening to him. Because he'd seen it happen before.
